that's all he can really think about, he's never actually... been overly good at showing his feelings or anything, generally people wouldn't think he was the team member that held the spirit of light, of all things. he was usually the gloomy one...

but then he got up and walked to his desk.]

You know. One time I went to Natsume's culture festival at his school and um... [he moves to pull out a pink stuffed...bird? from the desk. it was strange, and generally izumi liked odd things... right? so he turned to her and held the thing up.]

Saw this there. Thought you'd like it so I'm... giving it to you. [he frowned even harder and he walked back, sitting again and placed it on the table.]

[Well, she's distracted from the guitar for now. She reaches at the table and takes the toy. She examines it, slowly turning it around in her hands and glances back up at Kouji. She looks stunned again, and her cheeks are a soft shade of pink.]

Really? You want me to have it?

I said that, didn't I?

[he wasn't looking at her, he was looking away, his cheeks most definitely pink, and with each moment they might be turning a darker shade of red.]

...Do you like it?

[She makes a small little nod, but then realizes Kouji isn't looking at her.]

Yes. It's...cute.

kouji just clears his throat then moves to grab his own glass of water, sipping on it and hoping the cool beverage will help with his red face.]

No problem. [he manages to force it out.]

[Izumi's abandoned her water to the table so that she can better hold the toy.]

Did you...have fun? At the festival, I mean.

I didn't see you at the waterpark. Did you get to go?

[She shakes her head.]

No. I had some things to do with my family. I guess the community realized that for once. I'm sorry I missed out on it though.

It just would have been fun if you were there too.

[...he put it bluntly, for once, instead of being all huffy about it.]

Oh well.

Maybe we could go to one around here?

We could invite the others. [Because otherwise it would be a date, right? And that's...they're just friends.

[that's a reasonable excuse... right? he yawns and stretches, moving to fall back and allowing himself to lay down instead of sit on the floor.]

We wouldn't cause as much trouble. [you know, until they start arguing.]

[She stays in her spot, stiffening just a bit.]

You mean you'd want to go...just the two of us?

Yeah. I think it'd be fun.

[right? right.

from his position on the ground, he smiled slightly even.]

[She smiled back.

Of course, she had to tell herself a few times in her head to do so, thanks to being stunned into silence again.]

Sure. It would be a lot of fun.

[he made a sound at that, and then turned over so he was laying on his side.]

I don't normally complain but.... hasn't it just been way too hot lately? [guh this heaaat...!]

[Okay. So just...talk like normal? She could do that.]

Um, yeah. It has been! A water park would be really great with this weather.

[...can they even do normal talk? maybe kouji wants to see if his crush is real, if they can just get along normally without fighting every two seconds.]

Mmm.... I never got to go swimming much when I was younger though. My dad he's... overly strict, you know?

[it's a good thing he's not looking at her, makes this a little easier to say to her.]

..If I was caught even looking at a picture of my mom when I was growing up I got into trouble. But I was also under the impression that she died so I just... I don't think I could even look at another family without him catching me and knowing what I was thinking. [why was he even telling her...? who knows.]

[Obviously she knew things with Kouji's family were different. Meeting Kouichi had pretty much solidified that. But she didn't know the details, and knowing how Kouji was, she never asked.

But listening to it, she was glad he was telling her, but sad that he'd had to deal with that.]

I'm sorry. Is he...well, is he any better about it now?

[kouji remains quiet for a few moments after she asks that question, simply thinking on it, how his father acts now and all...]

He's... a little better. But that's because I've accepted my step-mom.

[he moves to get back up, sitting up and he looks at her.]

I've been denying her for three years, and all I really wanted was my real mom back and....

[he trails off, reaching up to his head he plays with the strays bangs from his ponytail for a moment.] ...I have her back now, so it's fine, I guess.

[She watches him carefully while he talks. It's so rare to hear him talk so honestly about these kind of things, that she wants to take it all in. She doesn't want to spoil everything by doing or saying the wrong thing.

She considers what he told her and smiles softly at him.]

I guess even adults don't really know how to deal with changes like that.

[he doesn't even know why he's telling her all this in the first place- he wasn't going to ever, only kouichi knows, but... he just... wanted to?]

Yeah.. I guess so.

[he drops his hand from his head.]

Don't tell anyone else though. You're one of the only ones that know about all that.

[And for some reason that makes her incredibly happy. Smiling, Izumi holds a finger to her lips.]

kouji blushes at that and looks away from her, quickly staring down at the table and he mutters something to himself.

...damn girl.]

Mm... what should we do now...? [he says that so she can actually hear though.]
